🎂🎉 149TH BIRTHDAY WEEKEND (19 – 21 July 2024) 🎂🎉

The celebration of GHS’s 149th birthday last weekend was highlighted by the attendance of a number of old girls, some from as far back as the Class of 1952! There were large contingents from the Class of 1974 (50 years) and the Class of 2004 (20 years), with the Class of 1999 (25 years) being the focus group of the 149th Birthday Weekend.

The Cultural Showcase initiated the festivities on Friday, and our choirs and individual performances certainly entertained the audience with quality recitals! Jane Abbott, class of 1993, handed over the Helen Muzzell Memorial Prize to Mr Anaxagoras. This prize will be used at future Prize Giving Assemblies for Outstanding Contribution to Drama.

The Cocktail Gin Evening on Friday night was well-supported by old girls and the warm atmosphere and the excitement of reconnecting with school-day friends was most evident at every class’s table.

The cultural and sporting encounters on Friday and Saturday, with our traditional rivals and friends, Clarendon, were played in a competitive and sporting fashion. All results are captured under News.

Sunday’s service was both heart-warming, and also offered an opportunity to say our farewells to past friends. Anne McLaren (nee Daniel), Head Girl of 1999 spoke to the girls, saying that life lessons develop courage and perseverance. She encouraged more women to enter leadership roles, using their potential and working hard for what they want to achieve.
