Prize Giving Ceremony 2023

 

At the Queenstown Girls’ High School 2023 Prize Giving, the major prizes were handed out by Miss Jessica Taylor, Physical Sciences teacher at Girls’ High School :

The QUEENSWOOD TROPHY is awarded in the SPIRIT OF HONOUR BEFORE HONOURS which was the motto of the old Queenswood School and the Non-Nobis Award : A prize awarded to the girl who has put service before self and has lived most nearly to the ideals and traditions of the School, who has displayed leadership, been steadfast and conscientious, yet she has never lost the touch of good fellowship – JUSTINE KABA

The SHIRLEY COTTERRELL TROPHY is presented by the Port Elizabeth OQA to the girl who has shown integrity and a true concern for others, shared by – UNAKHO NTLOKWANA & MIHLE MABUSELA

The LESLIE TROPHY and the STAR IN THE EAST LODGE PRIZE for Academic Achievement in Grades 11 and 12, the FREDA SPENCE AWARD and the COCKIN TROPHY for the Dux Scholar of the School – ANUJA JOMON

The JOAN DENT MEMORIAL TROPHY is awarded to a girl who has made a success of her school career – BLESSING AWOKIYESI

The LES TERWIN MEMORIAL TROPHY for the non-SLC member who has done the most for the school is awarded to – KHIARA RUITERS

The R. HAYES AWARD for the girl who has shown a keen spirit of sportsmanship :

Is awarded to the girl who placed her team and teammates above herself at all times. Her determination to win the game was never in conflict with her sportsmanship. She competed fiercely but always fairly. As captain of the first hockey team, she was always courteous and exemplifies sportsmanship. The Sportsmanship Award, given to this outstanding athlete, is not just a recognition of her accomplishments but a celebration of the values that she carries with her, both on and off the field – THINAMA QASANA

THE POPE CUP for the BEST ALL ROUNDER goes to a girl who participated in four disciplines since grade 8, namely hockey, athletics, swimming and tennis. Her relentless pursuit of excellence in athletics is a testament to her passion and talent in this field. Her impressive record and consistency in achieving half colours across her high school years reflect her dedication and competitive spirit. This year, she reached a significant milestone in her hockey career by receiving her 50 caps. This achievement is a testament to her consistency, her unwavering commitment to the sport, and her continuous growth as a player. Her 50 caps serve as a symbol of her dedication and passion for the game, as well as her enduring contribution to the team’s success. For the 1st team hockey she has outstanding qualities in her versatility. She has always been willing to step into different positions as needed, showcasing her adaptability and ensuring her team’s success – HAYLEY VAN SCHOOR

The DA FONSECA TROPHY for outstanding Commitment and Contribution to Sport is awarded to the girl who places her team and teammates above herself at all times. She is polite and kind, yet she is always determined to win the game. As captain of the squash and tennis teams, she is always courteous and exemplifies sportsmanship.

She played sport from Grade 8 to Grade 12 which is testament to her commitment and enjoyment of sport. She has played squash, tennis, swimming and hockey throughout her high school career and this year captained the 1st squash, swimming and tennis teams – MEAGAN NEWMAN

The HOUSE SHIELD – BESWICK

The HILLIAM AWARD is made to Grade 12 learners who qualify in respect of the following : a member of the Senior Learner Council (SLC); a member of one First Team (either Sport or Cultural) or must have qualified for a Choir Badge or colours in a Cultural sphere in her Matric year and she must have achieved a 60% or higher aggregate in Matric –
