151ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS : THE SUNDAY SERVICE
As the 151st GHS Birthday Weekend drew to a close, we were reminded of just how special our school community truly is. Our Birthday Sunday Service was a beautiful and meaningful celebration, filled with gratitude, reflection and pride. The GHS Choir sang so beautifully that they brought many of us to tears, filling the hall with music that touched every heart.
We were privileged to welcome Christine Strutt, Head Girl of 2001, as our guest speaker. Christine shared an inspiring message with our girls, reminding them that dreams only become reality when we are willing to take the small, consistent steps towards achieving them. It was especially meaningful to have her parents with us – Ieda, who dedicated many years of service to GHS as a teacher, and Paul, a former SGB Chairman. Their presence was a wonderful reminder of the generations who have helped shape our school.
A special highlight of the service was the presentation of new choir ties to our choir by the Old Girls’ Association. These ties were made possible through the Association’s fundraising efforts, with this wonderful initiative being led by our Vice President, Linda Maqoma. We know they will be worn with pride for many years to come. It was the perfect ending to a truly memorable birthday weekend.

151ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS : CAREER DAY
On Friday morning, we kicked off with a dynamic Career Day featuring highly successful old girls who shared their journeys with our learners. Sheree Degenaar, Phumelela Goduka, Donné Hartley, Linda Maqoma, Unathi Matoti, Unathi Saul and Sihle Sigwela shared their journeys with the girls. It was truly eye-opening for our learners to see what is possible, and to realise that these accomplished women once sat at the very same desks and walked the same passages that they are walking today.
151ST BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS : THE BIG BRAG
The Big Brag is one of GHS’s favourite traditions as we kick off our Birthday Weekend celebrations. It is a chance to celebrate our incredible sport and culture teams in Netball, Hockey, Tennis, Squash, Chess and Debating and recognise the dedication, teamwork and school spirit they have shown throughout the season. These 1st teams, with proud coaches, supportive families and the whole school cheering them on celebrated their achievements. This is the perfect way to begin a weekend of celebrating all the things that makes our school so special.
