150TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION SPECIAL

150TH SUNDAY BIRTHDAY SERVICE

Our 150th Birthday Service was held in St George’s Hall on Sunday morning, led by Rev Zuma in devotion. We were honoured to have Akhona Qengqe, class of 2000, as our Guest of Honour. Akhona shared her remarkable journey, from changing her initial accounting degree to pursuing a B.Comm in Economics, Politics and Philosophy. Her determination and thirst for knowledge propelled her up the corporate ladder, where she absorbed valuable skills with each step. In April 2023 her diligent efforts culminated in her appointment as KFC’s General Manager for Africa. An incredible achievement that speaks volumes about the kind of lady she is. The service concluded with an emotional moment as Old Girls from as far back as 1951 lit candles representing their respective years – a heartfelt tribute to the school’s rich history and legacy.

Our 150th Celebrations kicked off in style with a beautiful banquet at Aloe Grove. The conversation, reminiscing, laughter and memories shared were infectious and before long, it felt like no time had passed at all. Our fabulous MC for the evening, Zodwa Gqwaka, kept us thoroughly entertained and engaged throughout. Highlights included messages from Nicola Schuman (née Holbery), representing the class of 1975 and Xabiso Lombo from the class of 2015. Siphokazi Jonas captivated us with a reading from her book, showcasing her remarkable talent and love of language. The evening’s keynote speaker, Mr Richard Edkins, who served as Headmaster from 1990 to 2010, was honored with a beautiful gift from the class of 2005 represented by Christy Berry: a collection of all his matric classes over the years. The singing of the School Song concluded the evening on a heartfelt note. It was the perfect start to an incredible weekend, leaving us all eagerly anticipating the events to come.

150TH BIRTHDAY PROGRAMME

150 LAUNCH (150 Let's Build Together)

We are thrilled to announce the launch of our 150th birthday celebration!

Throughout the past 150 years, Queenstown Girls High School has served as a beacon of belonging, growth, and education. It has been a place where the values of integrity, curiosity, and tenacity are instilled, lifelong friendships are formed, and young minds are shaped. We pay tribute to the visionaries who established the school, the leaders who remained current and implemented the necessary changes, the educators who have dedicated their lives to education, and the students who passed through these corridors and have since made a significant impact on the world.

The 150-year milestone is a testament to the enduring spirit of our school. It is a time to remember our achievements, celebrate our present, and envision our future. We have much to be proud of but even more to aspire to. This would not be possible without the unwavering support of our extraordinary community and the old girls of Queenstown Girls’ High School. Please join us in commemorating this historic event and creating an even more unforgettable experience. Additional information and previews will be provided as the event approaches. Please reserve your calendars and extend an invitation to your family and friends. Let us ensure that this event is remembered for generations to come!
