BIRTHDAY WEEKEND – 142 Years!!
Girls’ High School celebrated a very successful 142nd Birthday Weekend. A Musical Showcase in St George’s Hall was a highlight where the girls were given the opportunity to show off their beautiful voices and dramatic skills.
Old Girls of various groups got together on Friday evening in the Erica Danckwets Hall enjoying a spread put together by old-girl Estie Featherstone (Hattingh).
We are very thankful to Judith Hart (Hobbs) who gathered the 1957 matrics (60 years), Bridget Hartley (Cloete) who gathered a group of Old Girls from 1977 to celebrate their 40 years, Nicky Hatting, Head Girls of 1992 and her committee who gathered their group of matrics to celebrate their 25 years and Donne Hartley who got together the Old Girls from 1997 to celebrate their 10 year reunion.
A special thank you to Mrs Esti Featherstone (Hattingh), National President of the OQA and her committee who put in many hours of work to ensure that the Old Girls were able to enjoy their reunion and return home with many fond memories. It was such fun to watch these Old Girls interact and see how the years have not really made any difference at all.
It was a pleasure to show off our beautiful school after the breakfast at School House on Saturday where the Old Girls were able to reminisce in the Museum and Library.
Saturday evenings’ dinner held at the Queen’s Casino and Hotel was enjoyed by all with many stories being told about “their time” at Girls’ High.
The Sunday Service in St George’s Hall was an apt end to a lovely weekend. Nicky Hatting, Head Girl of 1992 encouraged the learners to be themselves and do the best they can.
OLD GIRLS vs GHS
TENNIS : The Girls’ High School tennis players took on the Old Girls with mixed results. Section A was won by the Old Girls, section B resulted in a draw and section C was also won by Old Girls. Great fun was held by all.
