Girls’ High School celebrated a very successful 144th Birthday Weekend.  A Cultural Showcase in St George’s Hall was a highlight where the girls were given the opportunity to show off their beautiful voices and dramatic skills.

Old Girls of various groups got together on Friday evening in the Erica Danckwerts Hall enjoying a spread put together by the OQA Committee.

We are very thankful to Mrs Anne King (nee McEwan) and her committee who gathered a group of Old Girls from 1979 to celebrate their 40 years and Mrs Lucinda van Schoor (de Wet), Deputy Head Girl of 1994 and Mrs Philippa Hoffman (Milne) who gathered their group of matrics to celebrate their 25 years.  We are also thankful to all the Old Girls from 10 years ago and a few other ladies who joined in the festivities.

A special thank you to Mrs Carla Beetge (Jacobsen), National President of the OQA and her dedicated committee who put in many hours of work to ensure that the Old Girls were able to enjoy their reunion and return home with many fond memories.  It was such fun to watch these Old Girls interact and see how the years have not really made any difference at all.

It was a pleasure to show off our beautiful school after the breakfast at School House on Saturday where the Old Girls were able to reminisce in the Museum and Library.

Saturday evenings’ dinner held at The Gallery was enjoyed by all with many stories being told about “their time” at Girls’ High.

The Sunday Service in St George’s Hall was an apt end to a lovely weekend.  Mrs Lucinda van Schoor (de Wet), Deputy Head Girl of 1994 encouraged the learners to be strong women and excel in their different spheres wherever life may lead them.
